Itinerary

Day 1.

Escaping Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh – Kampung Chnang – Kampung Thom

50% Tarmac / 50% Dirt Road ... 180km

Departing from VMS headquarters after a warm greeting and briefing, we head out through lively Cambodian traffic before transitioning onto dirt roads leading to Phnom Baset, a hilltop temple.

Our ride continues through local villages, where we witness authentic rural life and experience Cambodian culture firsthand. From there, the journey takes us into Kampong Chhnang, located near the Tonle Sap, home to some of the largest floating villages.

After crossing the river by ferry, we continue riding north toward the charming province of Kampong Thom, situated in the heart of Cambodia.

Accommodation: Riverside Hotel with swimming pool

Include Meal: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2.

Into the Great Wide Open!

Kampung Thom – Kampung Cham – Kratie

60% Tarmac / 40% Dirt Road ... 190km

After a hearty breakfast, we leave Kampong Thom and ride to Phnom Santuk, the hilltop pagoda known as the “roof” of the area. We then continue east to the Mekong River at Stung Trang before heading toward Kratie province, home of the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.

After arriving in the riverside town of Kratie, we ride a little farther north to Kampi and take a short boat trip to see the dolphins in their natural habitat.

Accommodation: Hotel with swimming pool

Include Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3.

Ascending to Sen Monorom

Kratie - Mondulkiri

70% Tarmac / 30% Dirt Road ... 210km

The mountains are calling: We are leaving the Mekong River valley behind us (for now) and turning east to enter Cambodia’s southeastern province of Mondulkiri, home to the Punoung people, one of Cambodia’s ethnic minorities.

Tiny ‘Sen Monorom’, the regional capital is today’s destination. A mere thirty minutes’ drive away is Cambodia’s highest waterfall called ‘Bousra’ where a very special adventure is waiting for the brave traveler: Zipline – Fun!!! Flying through the waterfall.

We will spend our evening in the beautiful natural landscape setting of Nature Lodge sitting under the stars and by the campfire.

Accommodation: Nature Lodge

Include Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4.

Motorbike Dash to Crater Lake

Mondulkiri - Rattanakiri

60% Tarmac / 40% Dirt Road ... 195km

We are leaving Mondulkiri’s mountainous scenery behind and continuing our journey northbound to the province of Rattanakiri. The most direct connection between Sen Monorom and our next destination – the city of Banlung – the former ‘Death Highway’ is now fully sealed and therefore has lost its bite.

On the plus side: a refreshing splash in the crater lake ‘Yeak Laom’ near Banlung is only three hours’ drive away.

Accommodation: Hotel with swimming pool

Include Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5.

Borderlands Immersion:

Rattanakiri - Siem Pang - Preah Romkel - Kampung Sralav

30% Tarmac / 70% Dirt Road ... 200km

One of the most breathtaking sights the Land of the Khmer has to offer are the torrential waters thundering through the seemingly endless maze of rocks and ravines of the Mekong Falls in the north of Cambodia close to the border to Laos.

This is where we are going on day 6 of our adventure. We will spend the night in a small village nearby which is a great opportunity to whiteness everyday life in the countryside firsthand for a bit. Cook with the locals and experience a night in one of those long-legged stilt houses.

OPTIONAL: Take the boat to get to a small Laotian river island with an amazing French-colonial history.

Accommodation: Guesthouse with air-con (near Lao boarder)

Include Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6.

Where Borders Meet:

Kampung Sralav – Tbeng Meanchey – Koh Ker

70% Tarmac / 30% Dirt Road ... 195km

After breakfast in Kampong Sralau, we begin our ride through the remote countryside of northern Cambodia. Following a mixture of quiet paved roads and scenic dirt tracks, we pass traditional Khmer villages, rice fields, and forest landscapes on our way to Chep.

From Chep, we continue to Tbeng Meanchey, the capital of Preah Vihear Province, where we stop for lunch and refuel before continuing our journey toward the ancient temple complex of Koh Ker.

In the afternoon, we ride through rural villages and forested countryside to reach Koh Ker, the former capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century. Here, we explore the remarkable temple complex, including the impressive seven-tier pyramid of Prasat Thom, one of Cambodia’s most unique temple structures.

As the sun begins to set, we enjoy breathtaking views over the surrounding forests and plains, making Koh Ker one of the most memorable sunset locations in Cambodia. After sunset, we ride a short distance to a local village near the temple and settle into a comfortable guesthouse for the night.

Accommodation: Boutique Hotel

Include Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7.

The Road to Angkor:

Koh Ker – Kulen National Park – Siem Reap

70% Tarmac / 30% Dirt Road ... 225km

Leaving the ancient temple region of Koh Ker, we ride through the scenic countryside of northern Cambodia toward Phnom Kulen National Park. The winding mountain road to the summit offers excellent riding and spectacular views across the surrounding plains and forests.

At Phnom Kulen, we visit the famous River of a Thousand Lingas, the sacred Reclining Buddha, and the beautiful Kulen Waterfall. After lunch, we continue south on quiet tarmac roads toward Siem Reap.

Before reaching the city, we ride through the world-famous Angkor Archaeological Park, passing some of the Khmer Empire’s most impressive monuments, including views of the iconic Angkor Wat.
